I’m not trying to go overboard here, but sometimes you just have to stop and give someone their flowers.

And today, that’s Tyler Perry.

Tyler Perry is a filmmaker, actor, writer, and producer who built his career from the ground up. He is best known for creating the Madea character and for building one of the largest film studios in the United States..Tyler Perry Studios.

Recently, I heard a story about him trying to help workers at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). From what’s been shared online, he tried to give them money directly. But because of rules, they couldn’t accept it that way.

Most people would stop right there.

Not Tyler Perry.

Instead he reportedly went and bought gift cards so he could still give back in a way that followed the rules. Now, while some details of this story have been shared widely on social media and may not be officially confirmed in full one thing is clear this is exactly the kind of person Tyler Perry has shown himself to be over the years.

He doesn’t just talk about helping people.

He actually does it.

Why This Matters Right Now

This situation hits harder when you think about the reality of a government shutdown.

When the government shuts down, a lot of people feel it but not always the people you think.

Workers like TSA agents are considered essential. That means they still have to show up and do their jobs. They are at airports every day, making sure flights are safe, checking bags, and protecting travelers.

But during a shutdown?

They may not get paid on time.

Let that sink in.

You’re going to work, doing a job that protects the country, and you’re not getting your paycheck when you expect it.

That’s tough.

It’s Not Just TSA

TSA workers aren’t the only ones affected.

During a shutdown, many federal employees either:

  • Work without pay (essential workers)
  • Or get furloughed and told to stay home without pay

This can include people in:

  • National parks
  • Government offices
  • Research agencies
  • Support roles across the country

These are everyday people with bills, families, and responsibilities—just like the rest of us.

My Honest Take

I’ve always said this, and I’m going to say it again.

If the government shuts down, politicians shouldn’t get paid either.

It just doesn’t sit right with me that the people making the decisions are still getting checks, while the people doing the work are left waiting.

That needs to change.

Tyler Perry’s Impact

What stands out to me is this…Tyler Perry didn’t wait for headlines. He didn’t make a big speech.

He saw a problem, and he tried to help.

That’s leadership.

And it’s not new for him.

Over the years, he’s:

  • Helped families in need
  • Paid off layaways for strangers
  • Supported communities quietly

He’s built a reputation not just as a filmmaker, but as someone who gives back.

A Simple Thank You

He may never read this.

He may never hear my name.

But that doesn’t matter.

I just want to say it anyway…

Thank you Sir….

Thank you for showing people what it looks like to step up.

Thank you for not just talking about helping but actually doing it.

Because in times like this, actions matter more than words.
