As an undecided voter, tonight’s presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris feels like one of the most important events of this election season. I don’t vote based on party lines, I vote based on policies that I believe will benefit our country. This debate is my chance to hear directly from both candidates about what they plan to do differently and how they intend to lead us forward.
I’ve got some real concerns about both candidates. Starting with Kamala Harris, she’s had several years alongside President Biden to implement the changes they’ve promised. Yet, I haven’t seen the progress I’d hoped for. Prices of food and fuel have skyrocketed under their leadership, and it seems like these issues are only now being addressed because the election is approaching. To be honest, I don’t know much about what Harris truly stands for. Maybe it’s due to a lack of interviews or public discussions, but I feel like I need more transparency from her.
On the other hand, Donald Trump is, well, unpredictable. Looking back, I don’t think he handled the COVID-19 crisis very well, though I admit it would have been a tough situation for any president. What really concerns me are the race related issues that always seem to pop up around him. Whether it’s questioning President Obama’s birth certificate or debating if Kamala Harris is Black, these things make me uneasy. As a Black man myself, this kind of stuff is worrying.
Tonight’s debate is crucial for me. I need to hear concrete plans from both candidates. How will they address the rising costs of living? What are their strategies for uniting a country that’s been so divided? I want to know how they plan to tackle issues like healthcare, education, and social justice.
This isn’t just another political event…it’s an opportunity for both Trump and Harris to speak directly to voters like me who haven’t made up their minds yet. I hope they use this platform to provide clear, honest answers rather than rehearsed talking points.
In the end, my vote will go to the candidate who convinces me that they have the best policies for our nation. Tonight could very well be the night that helps me make that decision.
