Atlanta recently ranked as one of the worst traffic metros in America, and honestly I think McDonough deserves its own spot somewhere in the top 10 too. If you drive through Henry County or Interstate 75 every day, you already know exactly what I’m talking about.

Traffic around here has gotten completely out of control over the years. I remember when you could mostly expect backups on Fridays, Mondays, or around rush hour. Now? It feels like traffic shows up at random like an unwanted guest at a cookout. Tuesday at 1 PM? Traffic. Saturday morning? Traffic. Middle of the night? Somehow still traffic.

At this point I’m convinced people are just permanently parked on I-75.

The wild part is how fast the area has grown. McDonough used to feel more spread out and manageable. Now every empty piece of land turns into apartments, warehouses, storage units, or another shopping center before you can blink. Atlanta and the metro area are packed. Honestly… we may not have any space left lol. Somewhere right now a developer is probably trying to figure out how to build luxury apartments on top of another apartment complex…. literally!!

And let’s talk about Highway 75 for a second. I truly wonder what the future of I-75 even looks like. More lanes? Express lanes above the express lanes? At some point we may just need flying cars because the roads are reaching their limit. Forget drones delivering packages. I need a drone big enough to fly me over exit 218 during rush hour.

People laugh about the traffic, but this really impacts the economy too. When everything stays gridlocked all day, businesses lose time, workers lose time, and families lose time. Deliveries slow down. Emergency response times can become harder. Stress levels go through the roof. Some people spend so much time sitting in traffic that it probably feels like a part time job.

Georgia traffic has become one of the biggest frustrations for people living here. Especially south of Atlanta, where population growth has exploded over the last several years.

I still love Georgia. I still love the growth and opportunities coming to the area. But at some point leaders are going to have to seriously look at transportation planning because this pace is becoming hard to manage. The roads are trying their best, but they’re losing the battle.

Until then we’ll continue doing what Georgia drivers do best….leaving home 45 minutes early and still somehow being late lol
