I recently heard that The Steve Wilkos Show will be ending after many years on TV. As someone who watched it often, I have to say it’s a little sad to see it go. The show was not perfect, but I believe Steve Wilkos truly tried to make a difference in people’s lives.

For those who may not know, Steve Wilkos did not start as a talk show host. He first became known as a former Chicago cop and the head of security on The Jerry Springer Show. His job was to keep order during some of the wild moments on that show. Over time, viewers started to respect him. He had a calm but serious presence, and people trusted him.

In 2007, he got his own program called The Steve Wilkos Show. The show focused on serious topics like family conflict, cheating, and sometimes even criminal accusations. Steve was known for standing up for victims, especially children. When someone was accused of hurting a child or lying about something serious, Steve didn’t hold back. He made it clear that some behavior was simply not acceptable.

That honesty is one of the reasons I respected the show. Steve often tried to give people a chance to tell the truth and fix their lives. Sometimes guests failed those tests, but other times people actually got help and support.

Over the years, the show lasted nearly two decades. That is a long run for daytime television. Many shows never make it that far. But recently it was announced that the show will be ending because NBCUniversal is shutting down its first run syndicated talk show division. That means it will stop producing shows like this one.

To me, that decision shows something bigger. Our viewing culture is changing….

Years ago, people would come home, turn on the TV, and watch daytime talk shows. Shows like this were a daily routine for many families. Now things are different. Many people watch videos on YouTube, scroll through social media, or stream shows on demand. Traditional daytime TV simply does not have the same audience it once had.

That does not mean shows like Steve Wilkos did not matter. For many viewers, including me, the show offered something real. Steve spoke his mind. He called out bad behavior. And he tried to protect people who needed help.

In a world where entertainment can sometimes feel fake or scripted, that honesty stood out.

Even though the show is ending, I think Steve Wilkos built a legacy that many people will remember. For almost twenty years, he used his platform to stand up for what he believed was right. That is not something you see every day on television.

FYI the show will keep running at times with reruns but no new episodes will be added going forward.

The media world may be changing, but the impact of shows like this will not be forgotten.
