We all know the feeling of putting your heart and soul into something you love. For us, that “something” was a YouTube channel dedicated to our wrestling passion. We’re big wrestling fans, and over the years, we built a little community of about 1,500 subscribers who enjoyed our content. It was a space where we shared our projects, had fun, and escaped from the daily grind. (No I’m not sharing my wrestling addition channel LOL!!….ok maybe one day!)
Then one day, out of the blue, we got that dreaded message…. our YouTube account was terminated for supposed “violations” like spam or deceptive practices. I can’t describe how quickly our hearts sank. It felt like years of effort vanished in an instant.
Now, here’s the tricky part, there was nobody to talk to. You can’t just call up YouTube and say, “Hey, can you fix this?” It’s a massive platform with millions (maybe billions) of users, and we were just a tiny drop in that ocean. For a moment, we felt helpless realizing how much power these platforms have over the content we work so hard on.
But we didn’t give up. We found out we could submit an appeal. At first, we rushed it. We sent a quick one sentence plea like, “Hey, you made a mistake, please give us our account back.” And guess what? That wasn’t enough. We realized we had to be calm, get our heads together and send a more professional thoughtful response.
In that second appeal, we explained that we didn’t know what happened but we were willing to correct any mistake. We basically humbled ourselves (almost like begging, though not literally) and sent that off. It took a few hours, but YouTube actually responded the same day. They told us it was a mistake and they restored our channel.
The big lesson here? If this happens to you, don’t panic. You do have the right to appeal. Be patient, be polite, and put effort into your response. And remember, these big platforms have a lot of control, so it’s always good to diversify where you host your content. We were lucky this time, and we got our wrestling channel back. Hopefully, this guide helps someone else do the same.
