So the word is SNAP benafits will run out Nov 1st….Look I’ve always been a big believer in self reliance. I’m the first one to say that we should all strive to stand on our own feet and not lean on the government if we can help it. But here we are in 2025 and it’s a whole different world out there.
Jobs aren’t what they used to be. You’ve got folks working two or three jobs just to scrape together rent, and that’s if they’re lucky enough to even have a place of their own. Remember rent isn’t 700 dollars like it use to be a few years ago….. A lot of people are sharing space or moving back in with family just to survive. And now we’ve got a situation where the government is actually shutting off SNAP benefits for the first time in living memory because they can’t get their act together.
This is not just some abstract political debate. It’s REAL It’s happening fast and it’s a punch in the gut for a lot of families who are just trying to get by. Sure there are always going to be people who abuse the system but let’s not forget the ones who don’t. There are hardworking folks out there who just need a little help to get over a rough patch. Maybe they lost a job or had some unexpected bills or MAYBE they are caught in this government shutdown like a TSA worker or a Air Traffic Controller who are not getting paid… That’s what these programs are for…..
So yeah, I’m disappointed. I’m frustrated. And I’m worried about what this means for the folks who were counting on this lifeline. We’ve danced close to the edge before but we’ve never actually fallen off the cliff like this. I hope someone steps up and does the right thing before it’s too late because this is going to hit a lot of people hard. If you’re in that boat, start planning now, because this is real and it’s coming fast.
I’m looking directly at President Trump right now. This is one of those moments. We need action. At the very least, pass emergency funding to keep SNAP benefits going until the government gets back on track. Families shouldn’t go hungry because of political games. I’ll be deeply disappointed if Trump doesn’t step up and take care of the people on this one.
