Alright, America, it’s time for a heart to heart. I think we can all agree on one thing, regardless of political preferences…..this election season has been exhausting. The constant reminders, TEXTS ads, and “urgent” messages make it feel like I’m living in a never ending political campaign. I’m just trying to catch a football game or my favorite wrestling show without being told that the world will collapse if I don’t vote a certain way. Is that too much to ask?
It starts innocently enough, with a friendly little text, maybe even a flyer in the mailbox. But before you know it, you’re getting five texts a day. “Do you have a voting plan?” Yes, I plan to vote and then reclaim my phone from the barrage of election spam! Somehow, I’ve become a target for every political campaign known to mankind. It’s like my number got leaked in some underground “Political Enthusiasts Anonymous” chat, and now I’m forever bombarded with pleas to “get out and vote.”
Then there are the ads. Oh, the ads! You’d think I could escape during a football game, right? Wrong. Just when I’m ready to watch a political ad appears. Suddenly, instead of hearing about touchdown passes, I’m hearing about policy proposals. No offense to democracy, but I’m just trying to enjoy my friends and family with chips and dip without worrying that the world is about to end if the “other” candidate wins.
The best part of it all? Each side seems convinced that their opponent is out to ruin the universe as we know it. The messaging is so extreme it’s like an action movie trailer… “Coming this November… everything you love could disappear forever.” All I want is for the yelling to stop so I can relax and see my favorite teams win …..or lose, but that’s a topic for another day.
I’ve started viewing people differently too. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I’m judging who someone else supports, but it feels like this election season has everyone’s character under a microscope. People who used to talk about the work or their favorite shows are now giving fiery speeches at the grocery store. Everyone has become an expert, and I can’t even ask for my receipt without hearing someone’s passionate opinion on tax reform or the immigrants.
And then there’s social media, which has transformed into a political BATTLEFIELD. I remember when it was just pictures of funny videos and memes. Now, every scroll is a chance to accidentally start a debate. I’ve mastered the art of scrolling so quickly that I practically give myself motion sickness just to avoid another unsolicited opinion.
Honestly, it’s like we’re all trapped in some sort of political escape room. We’re just waiting for November 5th to finally arrive so we can take a deep breath and reclaim our everyday lives. Will the results cause the apocalypse? Probably not. Will it affect my fantasy football league? Absolutely not. I’m here to remind everyone that life will, in fact go on. It’s okay to vote for whoever you want, and guess what? It’s also okay to not discuss it every second of the day.
So, let’s all take a collective deep breath and remember that when this election season ends, we’ll still have the same neighbors, friends, and families….well some of you LOL. Whether your team wins or loses, life is more than just politics. In the end, we all just want to be happy, healthy, and……. uninterrupted.
Will this election season survive in our memories? Maybe…. But will we survive it? Absolutely….But just a thought though… Hmm if people only put this much energy into their local elections.. Ok ill stop (Sorry for the long post!)
