I’m really not a big TV person anymore.
That’s crazy because there was a time when I loved watching TV. I wanted to see the newest shows, movies, and everything else. Somewhere along the way, that changed. Maybe there are too many streaming services. Maybe our attention spans are getting shorter. Either way, it takes a lot for a show to keep me watching now.
Then TikTok got me.
I came across a clip of Joe Rogan talking about a show called FROM. I’m a fan of Rogan because I like his no BS style, but that’s another conversation for another day.
What caught my attention was the show.
I hadn’t really been hooked on a series since The Walking Dead. I watched that show through about Season 5, and I still think it was one of the better shows on TV. Take the zombies away, and it was really about people. Survival, trust, leadership, family, and what people will do when everything falls apart.
So I decided to give FROM a chance.
At first, I wasn’t sure.
Then it got me.
What Is FROM About?
I’m going to explain this without ruining anything or spoiling the show lol.
FROM is a horror and science fiction series about people who become trapped in a strange town. Once they enter, leaving isn’t exactly easy. The people already living there have learned that the town has rules, dangers, and some very strange things happening around it.
That’s about as much as you need to know.
Part of what makes FROM so good is figuring things out along with the characters. You start asking questions.
Where is this place?
Why are these people here?
Can they escape?
And what exactly is happening when the sun goes down?
Trust me. Do not Google too much before watching it…..
It Actually Keeps My Attention
That might be my biggest compliment.
We live in a world of TikTok, YouTube Shorts, phones, notifications, and a million things fighting for our attention. A show has to give me a reason to sit there for an hour.
FROM does that.
It has horror, mystery, supernatural elements, drama, and enough realistic human emotion that parts of it almost make you think, “Man…could something like this actually happen?”
The show isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t feel overly polished or cheesy to me. People make mistakes. People argue. People get scared. People don’t always make the smartest decisions.
That makes it feel human.
The reviews have also been strong. Rotten Tomatoes currently has the overall series at a 96% average critic score, with all four seasons receiving strong scores.
There Is a LOST Connection
One thing I found interesting is that people compare FROM to the shows.. Lost.
Executive producer and director Jack Bender and showrunner Jeff Pinkner both worked on Lost. The strange thing is, I tried watching Lost years ago and couldn’t get into it.
Maybe I need to try again now that I’m older.
But FROM grabbed me in a way Lost never did.
My Rating: 10/10
I don’t give many shows a 10 out of 10 anymore.
FROM gets one from me.
If you like The Walking Dead, supernatural stories, horror, survival shows, or mysteries that make you think, give this one a chance.
You can stream the series through MGM+, including through supported streaming platforms and devices. And yes, that’s another subscription in a world where we’re already paying for Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Max, and everything else.
But this one might actually be worth it.
The upcoming fifth season will be the final season and is planned for 2027, so this is actually a great time to catch up.
Just one piece of advice….Maybe don’t watch it right before going to bed.
